Privacy

This page explains what data this site collects, how it's used, and the choices you have.

What we collect, and when

In detail:

  • Anonymous analytics via Google Analytics 4 — page views, country-level geography, device type, time on page. We don't collect names, email addresses, account information, or precise location. Google may set cookies in your browser as part of this. Analytics loads on every visit.
  • Ad personalization data via Google AdSense — only after you accept the cookie banner. If you decline (or don't choose), ads still appear but won't be personalized to you. Google's ad cookies are subject to their own privacy policy.
  • Server logs — the web server records IP address, request URL, timestamp, and user-agent string for every request, as is standard. These logs are kept for short periods (under 30 days), used to investigate operational issues, and not connected to analytics.

No reader accounts exist on this site. The only personal data published is for authors — name, bio, credentials — and that appears on every article they write.

Cookies

On your first visit, a banner asks whether you'd like to accept cookies for personalized ads. Your choice is stored in your browser's localStorage — not in a server-side cookie — and applies only to this site.

  • Accept. Google AdSense loads and may set its own cookies for ad personalization.
  • Decline. No ad cookies are set. Generic, non-personalized ads may still appear; tracking for ad personalization does not happen.

Analytics cookies (set by Google Analytics) are not gated by this banner and may be set on every visit.

You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's browser data and reloading.

Save-Data

If your browser sends a Save-Data: on hint (common on mobile data plans with reduced-data mode active), ads and analytics are skipped entirely — regardless of your cookie choice. The page renders without any third-party scripts.

Children

This site is intended for an adult audience. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.

Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you. Since we don't collect identifying data from readers, in practice there's very little to access or delete — but if you have a question, please get in touch through the contact page.

For the analytics and ad data Google holds, refer to their data deletion tools for the relevant requests.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date on this page and, where appropriate, announced in the site's RSS feed.
